Chiang Mai: Volunteer program 3D2N
Spend three days living alongside rescued elephants at Elephant Jungle Sanctuary. Join the daily care routines, work with our vet team, and get a real look at what ethical elephant stewardship looks like — not as a tourist, but as part of the team.
This three-day program is for people who want more than a single day visit. You'll spend real time with the same elephants across multiple days — getting to know their names, their personalities, and the routines that keep them healthy and settled.
What makes this different
Most elephant experiences are built around one visit. This program gives you time. By Day 2, you're not learning who the elephants are anymore — you already know them. The difference in how you interact, and how they respond, is something you notice.
The program is also structured around genuine care work. You'll assist with morning health checks alongside our veterinary team, prepare herbal supplements based on each elephant's individual needs, help maintain their living environment, and take part in the feeding and bathing routines our mahouts do every day. You're contributing to actual care, not a simulation of it.
Day 1 — Meet the Elephants & Learn the Basics
Your first day is spent at Camp 1.2. You'll change into traditional Karen clothing, hear each elephant's story before you meet them, and spend the morning going through health checks, herbal supplement preparation, mud spa, and river bathing. In the afternoon, you'll observe the herd from a distance and make a handcrafted elephant cake treat to give them yourself. Lunch is a full Thai buffet at the sanctuary. In the evening, you'll check into your accommodation and have dinner.
Day 2 — Karen Village, Jungle Trek & Hands-On Conservation
The morning starts with a visit to a local Karen village — a chance to understand the relationship between the Karen people and elephants that goes back generations. From there, a guided forest trek takes you through the jungle to a hidden waterfall. After lunch, you return to the sanctuary (Camp 6) for an afternoon of practical conservation work alongside the mahout team: preparing food, refreshing the mud and bathing areas, and maintaining the elephants' living spaces. Dinner is at the resort.
Day 3 — Final Morning with the Elephants & Departure
A quieter last morning at Camp 4. You'll observe the elephants' routine from a natural distance, take part in a final feeding session, and have time to say a proper goodbye before heading back to Chiang Mai.
